DotA, LoL to be supported by DepEd, CHED as varsity sport

internet_cafe_philippines   CAGAYAN DE ORO, PHILIPPINES (The Philippine Chronicle/July 27, 2014) – After the popularity of DotA and LoL as electronic sports, Department of Education Region X director will now support electronic games as a varsity sports in Region X. "Our continued support for our future interests of today's generation of future Filipinos is the reason for supporting electronic sports." he said. "We'd also like to be one with the times because our children play a lot of these sports" "We are supporting DotA and LoL because they are the most popular games in Internet cafes today" he added. The Philippine Internet cafe industry which is earning around Php500 million a year for the Philippine economy is steadily dropping, yet there are more people who are playing games at home nowadays. We interviewed one of these gamers; Glenn Radana, who resides in Cagayan de Oro and plays at E-Stop in Carmen. "I really like this decision by them (DepEd, CHED) because it really supports us who play games everyday to showcase our skills and be known in school." Department of Education Directors in other regions have voiced their support and should follow suit in the future.
